Fishing Packages 2012

2012 season begins Saturday, May 16th and runs until we close October 18th.  You should know that 2009 was our best fishing season in our 13 years on Kipawa Lake.  Both the walleye and the lake trout were plentiful and in particular the walleye weighed in well above average size with many 12 to 14 pound specimen brought home for mounting by our guests.

Techniques & Tackle Used:

For lake trout, trolling is always the best way of bringing in the most fish.  Leaded or steel lines with either minnows or silver lures such as “Suttons” or “Millers” are quite effective; a gang troll always helps. Downriggers are also effective.  Portable fish finders are highly recommended.

For walleye, small light jigs (1/8 to ¼ oz) are used and even a single hook with a “slip shot” is also effective. If trolling for walleye we recommend “wally divers”, “rattling rapalas”, and silver and gold blade spinners.  Early morning and evening fishing will yield the best results because the water is very clear.

For northern pike, regular “dare devils” and common pike lures will give you good results. You can fish for large northern pike on Kipawa Lake or you can try some catch-and-release for smaller pike (up to 30 inches) on one of two small private lakes where we keep a row boat. A short walk from the main lake through trails will lead you to these lakes.  This has proven to be a very popular activity for families and kids.
